633-Room Hotel Challenged By Recruiting Shortfall

Challenge

A busy 633-room convention hotel property had the constant challenge to attract and maintain the appropriate number of housekeeping staff required by staffing guidelines. The model calls for approximately 60 employees, but the property had only been able to directly employ about 50%-60% of that requirement, necessitating the support of a housekeeping staffing partner.

Solution

In response to the property’s needs, Heart of House has worked diligently to supplement the team, providing room attendants, lobby personnel, housepersons, guest request runners, and laundry attendants. We responded quickly to changing needs and worked hard to adjust staffing levels when called upon. Many of our staff had been supporting the hotel for years, and this helped set high standards for newer associates. Additionally, we provided a housekeeping inspector to ensure cleanliness standards were being met, as well as an on-site staffing manager to assist with overall operations. Due to these efforts, the housekeeping team was prepared and equipped to succeed through a busy fall/winter/spring season.

Result

Heart of the House used a managed housekeeping staffing solution to solve the hotel’s recruiting and retention challenges. The housekeeping department was 100% staffed, turnover was reduced, and guest satisfaction greatly improved.
